The Program develops and supports a broad range of original scholarly initiatives on the IUB campus and beyond. In 2016, we embarked on a long-term project that explores the fragmentation and plurality in Muslim religious authority. We have been running a successful faculty seminar on Texts & Manuscripts of the Muslim World; hosting a biennial conference that showcases the depth and methodological diversity of Islamic Studies scholarship being carried out at Indiana University, and we have been hosting several working groups on various themes here on campus. In 2023, the Program will also begin to add to its scholarly range a focus on religious minorities in Islam and the Muslim world.
